Bukhman Philanthropies gives major donation to support lifesaving neonatal research at King’s College Hospital

July 7, 2025

Bukhman Philanthropies have made a significant donation of £500,000 to King’s College Hospital Charity, which will support vital neonatal research, education and training at King’s College Hospital.

This generous gift will enable the specialist neonatal team at King’s, led by Professor Anne Greenough, to accelerate research and translate findings to improve outcomes for babies in the UK and worldwide. The funding will also ensure that King’s clinical team will have optimal specialist research and training equipment to provide the very best care for young patients.

Daria Bukhman, Founder, Bukhman Philanthropies: “Bukhman Philanthropies is proud to support the vital work that the King’s team is doing. Westrongly believe in the power of research to increase our understanding of current challenges in neonatal health and are committed to support better outcomes for babies and mothers worldwide. We are delighted to be able to fund a dedicated research fellowship focused on improving respiratory support for premature babies, as well as vital bedside monitoring equipment and specialist training models for staff.”

Professor Anne Greenough, Professor of Neonatology at King’s: “Daria and Dmitri’s gift is transformative, and we are proud to partner them in their drive to improve neonatal and maternal health worldwide. Their support will enable my team to expedite important research and allow higher quality training with highly realistic simulation equipment. Quite simply, their gift will lead to better outcomes for the most vulnerable babies in our care, now and for many years to come.”

Gail Scott-Spicer, Chief Executive Officer at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. “We are deeply grateful for this incredible gift from Bukhman Philanthropies. Their generosity will help us to drive vital research to improve the health and future of babies with complex health issues. King’s is a recognised specialist centre for neonatal services, providing some of the most advanced treatment in the UK. With this support, we can ensure that King’s continues to transform outcomes in neonatal care.”

The donation will directly support several key areas within the neonatal unit at King’s College Hospital. This includes a Bukhman Research Fellowship looking into better modes of breathing support which are less damaging for newborn babies. It will also fund vital equipment such as two respiratory function monitors to help keep track of babies’ breathing in the delivery suite, and a portable ultrasound machine to be used at the cotside. It will also support education and training for all staff to optimise neonatal care, as well as improving facilities for parents and staff.
