London Youth and Bukhman Philanthropies are partnering to ensure children and young people across London can access the opportunities they need to thrive.
Bukhman Philanthropies has donated £500,000 - £250,000 per annum – in support of London Youth’s mission to champion and strengthen London’s youth organisations so young people have the opportunities and skills they need to succeed. This donation reflects Bukhman Philanthropies commitment to creating meaningful change and building a brighter collective future, especially when it comes to the mental health and wellbeing of children and young adults.
Daria Bukhman, Co-Founder and Chair of Bukhman Philanthropies: “Youth work is a powerful and often under-recognised force for prevention, resilience, and long-term wellbeing. By supporting London Youth, we hope to help strengthen the organisations and youth workers who are on the front line, building trusted relationships with young people across the city. At Bukhman Philanthropies, we believe that investing in young people’s mental health and wellbeing is essential to building a more equitable and hopeful future.”
Too many young Londoners face many intersecting challenges that impact their mental health and physical wellbeing. London has the highest rates of childhood poverty in the UK, affecting 37% of all young Londoners and 50% of black young Londoners. Unemployment rates amongst the young are highest in London. Despite its reputation for wealth and status, London is a place of huge inequality. There are high and escalating levels of anxiety and depression, especially as younger generations continue to emerge from the pandemic and struggle daily with ongoing challenges.
Pauline Daniyan, CEO of London Youth, says: “Through trusted relationships children and young people have with youth workers, in a youth club or space they choose to go to, youth work plays a vital role in enabling the positive mental and physical well-being of children and young people. We believe they deserve every chance to make the most of their lives. We are delighted that Daria shares this belief and recognise both the needs and the considerable potential of young people in the capital. This significant donation provides a huge step forward in the support of quality youth work in our city, but it is made against the backdrop of a very challenging funding environment for youth organisations. It is vital we continue to invest in the transformational power of youth work so that children and young people’s mental and physical wellbeing can continue to be supported and so they have the opportunity to thrive.”
